How to Use a Main Character Grid
A main character grid helps you see your protagonist as a whole person rather than a collection of traits. Use it to track what your character wants, fears, hides, believes, and how those things change throughout the story. It can also help you identify contradictions, strengthen relationships, uncover potential conflicts, and make sure your character’s actions are driving the plot rather than simply reacting to it.
For stories that span years, use the grid to track who your character was, who they become, and the experiences that cause that transformation.
