Main Character Story Grid
The Main Character Story Grid takes this a step further by focusing on the character whose choices and transformation are central to the story. Use it to track the connection between what your protagonist wants, what stands in their way, the choices they make, and the consequences of those choices.
For stories that span years, the grid can help you trace the character’s development over time: who they were, what happens to them, who they become, and what experiences cause that transformation.
Master Story Grid
The Master Story Grid brings the character work together with the larger story. Use it to see how your characters’ goals, conflicts, relationships, and transformations intersect with the major events of the plot.
It can help you identify where character choices create plot, where conflicts develop or resolve, and whether the story’s external events are connected to the characters’ internal journeys.
